SUUM PROJECT
숨 프로젝트(SUUM PROJECT)는 예술을 세상에 숨 쉬게 하는 비전을 바탕으로 큐레이터 이지윤이 2003년에 설립한 현대미술 기획 사무소이다. 지난 23년간 다수의 글로벌 현대미술 프로젝트와 선구적 전시로 유럽과 한국의 현대미술 작가들을 소개해왔다.
숨 프로젝트는 한국 현대미술의 글로벌 진출을 위해 여러 기업 및 기관과 창의적인 협업을 수행해왔다. 대표적으로 2010년 스탠다드 차타드 은행 후원으로 개최된 사치 갤러리의 특별전 , 2011년 삼성전자의 후원과 British Film Institute, Financial Times와 협업해 설립한 삼성 미디어 아트 어워드 등이 있다. 또한 IOC 커미션으로 2012년 런던 올림픽 미디어 아트 컬렉션을 구축하였다. 이후 2010년부터 2014년까지 비영리기관 ‘artclub 1563’을 운영하며 글로벌 아티스트들의 실험적인 작품을 선보이는 전시를 기획했고 2017년 현대산업개발 평창 올림픽 프로젝트(파크로쉬), 하나금융그룹의 아트 총괄 디렉팅, LG OLED ART 플랫폼 설립 등 기업과 현대미술을 연계하는 컨설팅을 진행했다.
이처럼 숨 프로젝트는 국내외 기업과 아트 마케팅, CSR 프로젝트, 아트 컬래버레이션 기획 등의 협업을 통해 미술과 대중이 소통하는 다양한 방식을 모색하고 있다.
SUUM Project is an internationally-driven contemporary art curating office founded in London by Jiyoon Lee in 2003. Meaning ‘breath’ or ‘vitality’ in Korean, SUUM champions contemporary art, through which we aim to vitalize society with creative and innovative ways to communicate with a wider cultural audience. In a broader context, SUUM Project strives to bridge Asian and European contemporary art world.
Over the past 23years, SUUM Project has organized more than 100 global contemporary art exhibitions in the world’s leading art museums and biennales. SUUM Project also has successfully organized various seminal international events including Prince William’s Royal Commission, 2012 Olympic IOC Media Collection, UK Financial Times and Samsung Media Art Awards, and etc.
From 2010 to 2013, SUUM Project has established a non-profit art museum ‘artclub1563’ to introduce Korean audience to new multidisciplinary exhibitions and experimental programs that accompany various installations, performances, and lectures. Now SUUM Project is taking a huge leap as the leading consultancy that has undertook some of the major CSR projects in Korea.
SUUM Project has developed into a cultural advisory consultancy that connects art with business and has advised major corporates including Hyundai Industrial Development, KEB Hana Bank, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, LG Display, Namyang Dairy Products, and many others for the past three years.
As the leading collaborative platform for innovative creators, SUUM Project will further assist in facilitating social communication by the means of art and culture around the world. Pushing the limits of everyday life, SUUM Project strives to offer a more accomplished and distinguished lifestyle.
SUUM X
‘숨엑스(SUUM X)’는 숨 프로젝트가 설립한 현대미술 전시 전문 플랫폼이다. 숨엑스가 기획한 대표적인 전시로는 모리 미술관과 협력해 영국 건축가이자 디자이너 토마스 헤더윅을 조명한 전시 〈헤더윅 스튜디오: 감성을 빚다〉(2023, 문화역서울 284, 서울)과 히토 슈타이얼(Hito Steyerl), 카스텐 니콜라이(Carsten Nicolai), 레픽 아나돌(Refik Anadol) 등 12팀의 세계적 미디어 아티스트를 초청한 〈LUX: 새로운 현대미술의 물결〉(2021, 180스튜디오, 런던)과 LUX의 두 번째 순회 전시인 〈LUX: 시적해상도〉(2023, DDP, 서울)가 있다. 최근에는 중앙일보 창간 60주년을 기념해 국내 최대 규모의 바스키아 전시인 〈장 미셸 바스키아: 과거와 미래를 잇는 상징적 기호들>(2025, DDP, 서울)을 개최했다.
SUUM X is a global contemporary art exhibition platform and an extension of the SUUM Project, which was founded in London in 2003 by curator Jiyoon Lee with the aim of creating global contemporary art projects between Europe and Korea.
In the past four years, the SUUM Project has expanded its operations more actively in Seoul, establishing SUUM X, a professional contemporary art exhibition production office specializing in museum consulting, collection advising, and space planning.
As a new platform introducing diverse contemporary art exhibitions to domestic and international audiences, SUUM X focuses on providing new artistic experiences at the intersection of art, technology, and culture, while strengthening the connection between art and the public. SUUM X has successfully held a variety of exhibitions both in Korea and abroad in collaboration with major global art institutions. Notable exhibitions include LUX: New Wave of Contemporary Art in London(2021), BVLGARI Colors at the Seoul Arts Center(2021), Heatherwick Studio: Building Soulfulness—a showcase of works by the world-renowned designer and architect Thomas Heatherwick in collaboration with Mori Art Museum(2023), and LUX: Poetic Resolution, a large-scale media art exhibition featuring 12 leading media and new media artist groups at Dongdaemun Design Plaza(DDP).
JIYOON LEE
이지윤은 2003년 런던에서 숨 (SUUM) 프로젝트를 설립한 이래 글로벌 예술감독이자 큐레이터로 활동해왔다. 선구적인 아시아계 미술 전문가로서 ‘Seoul Until Now!’(덴마크 왕립미술관, 2005), ‘Korean Eye: Fantastic Ordinary’(런던 사치 갤러리, 2010), 프린스 윌리엄 커미션(2012) 등 중요 전시와 프로젝트로 유럽과 한국의 현대미술을 잇는 교량적 역할을 하였다.
영국박물관에 한국관을 설립하는 실무를 맡으며 경력을 시작한 이지윤은 지난 25년간 국내외 현대미술계를 적극적으로 연결해왔다. 2014년부터 2016년까지 국립현대미술관(MMCA) 서울관 총괄을 역임하며 국립현대관이 글로벌 뮤지엄으로 안착하는 데 기여했으며 현대자동차 시리즈, 대한항공 프로젝트 및 한국의 기업과 함께 미술관 재단을 성공적으로 운영했다. 2018년부터 2020년까지 중국 북경의 중앙미술학원 미술관의 초청 큐레이터로 활동했다.
한국을 대표하는 글로벌 큐레이터로서 이지윤은 2006년 부산 비엔날레, 2008년 리버풀 비엔날레, 2009년 베니스 비엔날레 부대 전시 기획자로서 국제 비엔날레 현장에서 활동했으며 2012년 삼성전자와 협력하여 런던 올림픽 IOC 미디어 아트 컬렉션 감독으로 선정된 바 있다.
현재 이지윤은 숨 프로젝트를 이끌며 연세대 경영대학과 이화여대 겸임교수로 아트 마케팅을 강의했고, LG전자, 신세계그룹을 비롯해 KEB하나은행 아트 컬렉션의 자문위원을 맡고 있다.
이지윤은 연세대학교 불어불문과 학사,
런던 골드스미스 대학에서 미술사 석사, 런던 시티 대학에서 미술관 박물관 경영학 석사, 코톨드 미술대학에서 미술사 박사 학위를 취득했다. AICA, ICOM, CiMAM 등 세계적 기관의 회원으로서 2022년부터 매년 글로벌 미술 연사를 초청하는 ‘숨 아트포럼’을 개최하는 등 활발한 행보를 이어가고 있다.
Jiyoon Lee is the Founding Director of SUUM Project, a contemporary art office and cultural consulting firm she established in London in 2003. Over the past twenty-five years, SUUM Project has evolved into a leading platform fostering dynamic exchange between contemporary art communities in Europe and Korea.
From 2014 to 2016, Lee served as the inaugural director of the newly established Seoul Division at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, where she oversaw major institutional collaborations and advanced the museum’s strategic development. She continues to advise global corporations—including LG Electronics’ OLED ART initiative—on cultural and artistic strategy. Lee has recently drawn significant attention for her major curatorial projects, including Heatherwick Studio: Building Soulfulness and Jean-Michel Basquiat: Signs – Connecting the Past and the Future.
She holds a BA and MA in Art History from Goldsmiths, University of London, an MBA in Museum and Gallery Management from City University London, and a PhD in Art History from the Courtauld Institute of Art.
