The globally renowned Argentine artist Leandro Erlich unveiled his first public art commission in Korea with Flying Boat (2021), now docked in the main lobby of Lotte Signiel Busan, a major landmark in the city. Erlich, who represented Argentina at the 2001 Venice Biennale, is well-known in Korea through major solo exhibitions at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Seoul Museum of Art.

Erlich’s work is known for transforming familiar spaces into surreal environments through optical illusions, offering viewers a refreshing perspective on physical surroundings. In Flying Boat, the artist merges the elements of water and air to create a symbolic visual totem. The gravity-defying structure fuses reality and fantasy, presence and illusion, presenting a surreal spectacle. The mirrored surface of the boat reflects its surroundings like shimmering water, inviting viewers to imagine a new kind of flight, far removed from the ordinary.
