Prince William Royal Patron Charity Event

〈A Positive View〉는 영국의 윌리엄 왕자가 자선 활동을 활발히 펼쳤던 고 다이아나 왕세자비의 유지를 이어받아 최초로 후원한 왕립 자선행사이다. 행사에서는 20세기와 21세기를 대표하는 국제 사진 작가들의 작품 백여 점이 경매되었다. 출품된 작품들은 작가, 갤러리, 또는 개인 컬렉터들로부터 기부 받은 것이며, 수익금 전액은 4월 15일에 열리는 런던 크리스티(Christie’s) 경매를 통하여 크라이시스(Crisis) 재단에 기부되었다. 기부금은 영국 노숙자들의 재활 및 재교육을 위해 사용된다.

총괄 전시기획을 맡은 큐레이터 나딤 삼만(Nadim Samman)은 “이번 전시는 소위 사회의 ‘중심’, 즉 사회적 아이콘, 집, 서구사회들의 이미지와, 사회의 어두운 부분과 변두리를 아우르며 다각도로 바라본 이미지들을 전시한다. 그렇기에 어떤 작품들 사이에서는 불안정한 의존성이 보여지기도 한다. 물론 이전 전시회에서와 같이 세계적으로 유명한 작가들의 초기작부터 최근작까지 다양하게 선보일 것이다”라고 말했다.

전시에 출품되었던 아시아 작품을 선정하는 일은 숨 프로젝트의 (SUUM Project)의 이지윤 큐레이터가 맡았다. 국내 출품작들은 한국적인 아름다움을 작가 특유의 방식으로 해석한 작품들로 구성되었으며, 최근 들어 국제적으로 주목을 받고 있는 한국 사진계를 가감 없이 보여주었다.

A Positive View showcases an extraordinary range of photographic on a truly international scale, under the Royal Patronage of Prince William supporting Crisis, the homelessness charity.

The third edition of this fully curated museum-scale photographic exhibition is held at Somerset House, brings together more than 100 rare and signed vintage works across almost a century of photography: classic and contemporary works are cross a variety of genres, from sill-life fashion, landscape, portraiture and reportage. It is followed by a Royal Gala reception and auction at Christie’s on 15th April, in aid of Crisis.

The Exhibition Curator, Nadim Samman states “As A Positive View benefits people on the margins of society, this exhibition brings together images of a notional ‘centre’-social icons, home, the West-with peripheral visions. In some cases the display suggests their unsettling interdependence. At the same time, as with previous editions, ‘A Positive View’ continues to showcase the achievements of leading photographers past and present.”

For the first time, A Positive View features work from contemporary artists whose creative practice incorporates photography, with geographically diverse representations from Korea, China and Africa. For the Korean photography section, curator Jiyoon Lee, the Director of SUUM Project, curated a show of a giant scale with 11 leading contemporary Korean photographers.
