LUX: New Wave of Contemporary Art, Travelling Exhibition in Seoul

명상적 풍경, 새로운 숭고함, 기술적 미니멀리즘, 안식처의 탐구

영국 런던에서 성공적으로 개최된 대규모 미디어 전시 《럭스: 현대미술의 새로운 물결 (LUX: New Wave of Contemporary Art)》에 이어서 두 번째 전시인 《럭스: 시적 해상도 (LUX: Poetic Resolution)》가 자하 하디드 디자인의 건축물로 유명한 동대문디자인플라자(DDP)에서 열린다. 《럭스: 시적 해상도》는 럭스(LUX) 전시의 두 번째 해외 순회 전시로 동시대 현대 미술의 최전선에서 활동하는 세계적인 작가 카스텐 니콜라이(Carsten Nicolai), 피필로티 리스트(Pipilotti Rist), 드리프트(DRIFT) 등 12팀의 아티스트 그룹이 참가하여 대규모 시청각 설치 작품 16점을 선보인다. 이번 전시는 2021년 개최된 런던 전시의 주요 작가 5인과 함께 새롭게 초청한 아티스트 7팀의 작품을 소개한다.

전시의 부제인 ‘시적 해상도(Poetic Resolution)’는 보이지 않는 빛과 소리와 같은 비물질적 요소를 해상도와 주파수로 수치화하여 한 편의 시와 같은 시청각 매체, 즉 예술로의 표현을 의미한다. 이번 전시는 동시대 기술 기반 현대 미술의 현주소를 총체적으로 제시하며 지난 30년간 미디어를 현대미술의 중요한 재료로서 실험하며 예술 창작의 지평을 넓혀온 세계적 작가 12명(팀)의 작품을 소개한다.

이들은 현대미술의 선구자로서 예술적 영감과 최첨단의 기술로 다가올 미래의 미술에 대한 근본적 질문을 던진다. 기존 전통적인 전시 형태에서 벗어나 새로운 미디엄 실험으로 시공간에 대한 새로운 감각을 선사하는 작품들에서 현대미술을 이끄는 미디어 아트의 에센스를 경험할 수 있다. 

Exploring Meditative Landscapes, New Sublime, Technical Minimalism, and Sanctuaries

Following the successful large-scale media installation exhibition “LUX: New Wave of Contemporary Art” in London, the second edition titled “LUX: Poetic Resolution” is held at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), a modern cultural complex known for its architecture of Zaha Hadid design. “LUX: Poetic Resolution” is the second tour of the LUX exhibition, with a group of 12 artist teams, including internationally renowned artists Carsten Nicolai, Pipilotti List, and DRIFT, showcasing 16 large-scale audiovisual installations. This exhibition introduces seven newly invited artists along with five major artists from the London exhibition held in 2021.

Poetic Resolution, a subtitle of the exhibition, refers to an audio-visual medium such as a poem, that is, an art, by quantifying non-material elements such as invisible light and sound into resolution and frequency. This exhibition presents the current manifestation of contemporary technology-based art, introducing various artworks by artists who have expanded the genre of art by experimenting with emerging technologies as an important medium for modern art over the past 30 years. This exhibition invites you to embark on a journey of introspection, contemplation and encounters with artistic creations that transcend the boundaries of tradition and convention.
